Wendy Woods talks about her session with the Curly Yogi

I wouldn’t consider myself a sporty person, yes I’ve done a bit of running in the past but I was never great at it and always felt like I was dying whilst doing it despite being told I’m a natural (really?!).

Likewise I do not consider myself flexible. If I sit on the floor legs out in front and try to fold forward I may as well not bother as the degree of movement in that position is fractional.

Because of this I thought I would not be able to take part in yoga as surely this limits me in doing some of the poses. And yes, when we are to fold over in that position I just sit there, but you know what? I do what I can do.

There is no pressure, no expectations and no feelings of inadequacy when I realise how inflexible I am.

Debbie always gives options in the poses for times when you just can’t do the whole bendy bit that she can and I love that. Like she says, we aren’t all built the same and there is no pressure to pretend to be anything other than who we are and whatever we can manage is ok.

The most important thing for me is the time it makes me dedicate to myself no matter how busy I am at work.

I always make sure I do yoga, even during year end, just that half an hour is bliss. It allows me to switch off, do gentle exercise and refocus on the day/week ahead.

Only last week Debbie commented that the CCG is her favourite group to teach as we come in looking frazzled and leave much calmer and visibly refreshed!

I really can’t speak highly enough of these sessions and I thank the CCG for allowing us to do this, it really does make a difference to my wellbeing.

Zoom Yoga takes place at 11.30 every Thursday with Debbie, aka The Curly Yogi, at a cost of £3.50 per half-hour session. To book, please contact Niki (niki.peacock@nhs.net) by close of play on Wednesday.
