“Unsung hero” Angie Porter has been named as the latest winner of the Star of the Month Award at NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).
Angie works within the CCG’s Patient Services Team and has responsibility for dealing with patient and MP enquiries, concerns and complaints.
The Star of the Month Award has presented by Mark Brandreth, Interim Accountable Officer at the CCG, who launched the monthly prize in September as a new way of recognising staff for their hard work.
Angie received three nominations for the award, including from her manager Tracy Eggby-Jones, who said: “Angie always puts patients at the heart of everything she does. She is empathetic, a good listener, kind and caring and seeks to find a resolution to patients’ concerns.
“It has been a specifically challenging time over the past 18 months and Angie always does her best to support patients through what can be a very difficult and emotionally time for them and their families.
“Angie often goes over and above the call of duty and I thoroughly believe she deserves to be recognised as ‘Star of the Month’ as she is definitely an unsung hero.”
Also nominating Angie were Senior Quality Lead Angela Turner and receptionist Susan Beddall.
Angela said: “Angie has worked for the CCG for many years. She has been unfailingly hard-working, conscientious and dedicated to her work. Most importantly she wants to get the best outcome for her/our clients.
“She’s always friendly, has a smile, does her best for everyone, joins in, and is all round a jolly ‘Good Egg’.”
Susan added: “I always thought Angie was brilliant but recently, while providing her with some admin support, I have had my eyes opened. I have been totally amazed with the volume of work she ploughs through with professionalism, empathy and dedication.
“She has been working on her own due to staff sickness remaining calm and patient throughout a very difficult time. She is a total credit to Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin CCG and should be valued as such.”
Mark said: “Angie is someone who comes to work every day to do their very best for all of our patients across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin.
“She goes about her business without any fuss and probably thinks she is ‘just doing her job’. We are lucky to have her as part of our team and it was my pleasure to present her with the Star of the Month Award.”
The award was presented at the CCG’s weekly staff “huddle” – a short weekly meeting held virtually, where all staff are briefed on key developments and given the chance to ask questions of their leadership team.
Angie said: “Working in the Patient Services Team gives me an opportunity to make a difference, which is why I do this role. The last year or so has been particularly tough for everyone and has had a huge impact on the NHS; If I can assist in helping someone access the support that they need then, this is reward enough, however I truly appreciate my colleagues kindness and recognition in nominating me for the Star of the Month”.
