Referral Assessment Service (RAS)

The Referral Assessment Service (RAS) manage GP referrals for patients registered with a Shropshire GP practice.

There are currently 40 Shropshire GP practices’ that RAS deal with along with 10 Welsh Border practices. Further information about these Welsh Border practices can be found on the links included.

Once it has been decided that a referral is necessary, they are created electronically by the GP practice and sent direct to RAS on the national e-referral system.

The referral will be reviewed by one of our fully trained staff to ensure all the relevant information has been received and will be processed to the appropriate provider. If the referral falls into Value Based Commissioning one of the clinical triage nurses will review the referral meets criteria and all information provided is sufficient.

RAS enables patients to be seen in the right place first time; this may be in a GP practice setting, in a community health clinic or at a hospital. Whichever is seen as the most appropriate and meets the needs of the patient.

RAS opening times:           9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays)

Telephone:                         03300 248 283
